Friday Lunchbox #6

Morning Tea - Canned peach pieces in vanilla yoghurt.  Two mini-pikelets (buttered).
Lunch - Salad of tri-coloured pasta bows, capsicum, cherry tomatoes, english spinach leaves, feta cheese and kalamata olives dressed in drizzle of extra virgin olive oil and cracked black pepper.  Fresh watermelon pieces.
Drink - Water

It's the first time I've given Miss Five a salad like this for school.  She eats and likes all the ingredients seperately and liked the idea of having them all together so we'll see how we go!  Do your kids like salads?  Perhaps they can't stand them?  Did you like them as a kid?  (I did!)  What 's in yours (or your kid's) lunchbox today?  Do tell!!

  1. Loving the lunch box inspiration.
We made the stromboli but turned it into a cheesymite (I can't believe how much money I spend on those things) and the kids *loved* it.

We tried the jaffles (ours have corn in them) and Little Miss just loves them... they are perfect for when the bread isn't quite as fresh as it could be.

We've even had the double decker sandwiches - yummm too!

I made little pies for dinner the other night but she couldn't cope with a cold pie for lunch.

Love the salad. My daughter is a huge salad eater, she'd eat salad with every meal. With mangos starting to come out here now she loves a salad with mango in it (most of our salads are a cross between fruit and vege salads) and it's a great lunch if you had some honey soy chicken wings with it. A bit messy, but yummy.

  2. I'm so glad you've had such great successes so far! I've been looking at some ideas for including a little meat with the lunches, your honey soy wings are a lovely idea - definately finger-licking good. And salad with mango in it...YUUUUM! Those fruit and vege salads are the best!

  3. oh how yummy is this lunchbox. Oh I love it, I would eat that for me. lol. What a great lunchbox idea. My boys are so boring. Fruit break is apple or strawberries, lunch is vegemite sandwich and banana, afternoon tea is whatever cake, cupcakes, slice I have made that week, ranging from banana cake, orange cake, sultana cup cakes. My youngest loves a little container of dried apricot, sultanas, raisins, dates and figs. I don't pack cold meats for them or cheese, we have cheese, dip and biscuits for afternoon tea. Do you have a mini ice pack for the lunch? Thanks for sharing this, I am so hungry now. lol

  5. Yes Joyce, I do keep an ice pack in there - we have one that is wide enough to cover the entire bottom under the salad container but very slimline so it doesn't take up too much space. After I took this photo, I also squeezed a mini one down the side next to the yoghurt and fruit. Miss Five's school lunch time is quite early in the day (about 11.30)so I know that everything stays nice and cold 'til then.
